Zamfara: Governor Lawal views the Appeal Court judgment as a momentary setback

Zamfara State Governor, Dauda Lawal, has characterized the recent decision from the Appeal Court as a temporary setback for his administration. The three-judge panel of the court declared the Zamfara State governorship election inconclusive, mandating a rerun in three specific local government areas: Maradun, Birnin-Magaji, and Bukkuyum.

In a statement released on Friday by the governor’s spokesperson, Sulaiman Bala Idris, it was emphasized that Governor Lawal’s election was a response to dissatisfaction with the prevailing conditions in the state. The statement asserted that the outcome of the governorship election on March 18 accurately mirrored the people’s desire for a shift towards positive development and progress.

Governor Lawal expressed optimism despite the Appeal Court’s ruling, stating, “The ruling by the Appeal Court is a temporary setback. However, I remain optimistic that the collective decision of the people will ultimately prevail,” as indicated in the statement.

He further added, “We will emerge victorious. Our unwavering determination and steadfast commitments leave no room for doubt or fear. Despite numerous challenges faced during the last election, I assure our people that we are fully committed to retaining this widely acclaimed mandate.”

Calling for calm among the people of Zamfara State, Governor Lawal assured that their legal team is thoroughly reviewing the verdict and pledged to take necessary actions to achieve a just outcome.
