Barcelona coach Hansi Flick has expressed uncertainty over whether teenage winger Lamine Yamal will be fit to start in his team’s upcoming La Liga match against Real Sociedad on Sunday.
Flick revealed that Yamal had been working indoors and undergoing specific strength training after playing in several recent matches, prompting the club to exercise caution. “We’ll see what the situation is tomorrow,” Flick said, suggesting a decision on the young star’s availability would be made closer to the game.
In contrast, Flick is more confident about playmaker Dani Olmo’s fitness despite the player feeling unwell overnight. “With Dani, he felt a little bit uncomfortable last night, but this morning he’s doing better. After some treatments, I think he’ll be ready for tomorrow,” Flick noted.
Defender Pau Cubarsi, who suffered a cut to his face during Barcelona’s Champions League win over Red Star Belgrade, will also be available for selection after training fully with the squad.
Barcelona head into the match with a nine-point lead over second-place Real Madrid, underlining their dominance at the top of La Liga.
Flick also took the opportunity to reinforce the importance of punctuality for his players, referencing an incident in October when French defender Jules Koundé was left out of the starting lineup for arriving late to a team meeting. “If you’re five minutes too late, the others have to wait. This is not respect, and this is not my understanding of being respectful,” said Flick.
