Why I Chose Music Over Banking – ID Cabasa

Renowned music producer Olumide Ogunade, popularly known as ID Cabasa, revealed that he ventured into the music industry after working in the banking sector. Cabasa shared that he pursued music due to his unwavering passion for the art form, despite initially studying medicine for two years before switching to economics.

During a recent episode of the Debbie Show TV, Cabasa recounted his academic journey, stating, “I did medicine for two years, then went on to study economics. After completing my masters, I worked with two Nigerian banks before transitioning into music.”

Despite pressure from his parents to become a doctor, Cabasa followed his heart. Upon gaining admission to study medicine, he realized it wasn’t his calling and subsequently rewrote the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) exam to secure a spot at Lagos State University, where he pursued economics.

In reflecting on his early musical pursuits, Cabasa noted, “I couldn’t study music then because it wasn’t recognized as a viable career, unlike today. Initially, I pursued music solely for the passion. Despite studying economics, I always knew I would end up in music. Interestingly, my initial foray into the arts wasn’t in music but in acting.”
