Ini Edo – A notable Nollywood actress delves into the reasons behind certain men perceiving ‘highly successful’ women as challenges to their traditional role as the head of the household.
Ini Edo, during a recent discussion on Toke Makinwa’s podcast, expressed the viewpoint that men generally lean towards women who exhibit submissiveness and are perceived as easily ‘controlled.’ She emphasized the difficulty of encountering men who understand that the success of women does not undermine their role as the leaders of their households.
“Some men feel threatened by the strength of women, perceiving it as an excess. There’s this notion that women, by being successful, may overshadow traditional roles. As a woman, you’re expected to be beautiful, present, and adhere to conventional responsibilities.
Men often desire women to not be overly accomplished, allowing them to maintain a sense of control. They prefer the idea of a woman who embodies traditional roles – cooking, cleaning, and fulfilling societal expectations. The challenge arises when a woman becomes too formidable; it can be seen as a threat to the male ego.
However, I believe in embracing the role of a queen without seeking to dominate or overpower any man. Even as I achieve success, I don’t envision a relationship where I’m asserting dominance over a man. For me, the true beauty lies in walking alongside my partner, with him providing guidance, support, and protection.”
