UPDATE: Federal Government to arraign former CBN Governor, Emefiele, today on charges of alleged economic sabotage.

The Federal Government is set to initiate trial proceedings against Godwin Emefiele, the former Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), for alleged economic sabotage-related offenses. Emefiele’s trial, which was postponed just 24 hours ago, is scheduled to take place at a High Court in the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja.

A notice detailing the trial before Justice Hamza Muazu has been observed by DAILY POST, revealing that Emefiele will face charges alongside a co-defendant, Ramalan Yaro. A registrar from the court, who opted to remain anonymous, confirmed that Emefiele is expected to appear before the court in the morning, where he will enter a plea of guilty or not guilty.

Maxwell Opara, a member of Emefiele’s defense team, verified that the notice of arraignment has been delivered to the former CBN Governor, signaling his requirement to appear in court. Emefiele will be presented in court by Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN) Matthew Burkaa, who has undertaken to ensure his presence for the trial. This commitment was made as part of the bail granted to Emefiele by Justice Olukayode Adegbola Adeniyi from the FCT High Court.
