The Nigerian federal government is presently engaged in discussions with the leadership of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) concerning the ongoing nationwide strike. The meeting is unfolding at the office of the National Security Adviser (NSA), with key figures like the Minister of Labour, Simon Bako Lalong, Minister of State, Hon. Nkeiruka Onyeajeocha, and NSA Nuhu Ribadu in attendance.
Labor representatives, including TUC President Festus Osifo, NLC Secretary General Emmanuel Ugboaja, and other leaders, are also participating in the talks. This development follows the joint declaration of a nationwide strike by the NLC and the Trade Union Congress (TUC), which seeks the apprehension of suspected thugs and their backers.
It is noteworthy that this action follows an assault on the NLC president in Owerri, the capital of Imo State, on November 1. The attack occurred during a protest staged by state workers, highlighting their grievances over unpaid salaries.
