UEFA has announced the postponement of all matches originally slated to take place in Israel for the next two weeks. This decision follows the backdrop of the Israel-Hamas conflict, a devastating and long-standing conflict responsible for a tragic loss of life, with at least 700 casualties reported, marking a level of tragedy unseen in decades.
Among the affected fixtures is the Euro 2024 qualifying Group I match between Israel and Switzerland, initially scheduled for Thursday at Tel Aviv’s Bloomfield Stadium. Regrettably, this game will no longer proceed as planned.
In an official statement, UEFA conveyed its stance on the matter:
“Given the current security situation in Israel, UEFA has opted to postpone all scheduled matches in Israel for the upcoming fortnight, with new dates to be determined in the near future.
“UEFA will maintain a vigilant watch over the evolving situation and engage with all concerned teams before deciding on rescheduled dates and potential adjustments to other forthcoming fixtures.
“Furthermore, UEFA will take the following days to assess whether Israel can partake in their Euro 2024 qualifier against Kosovo in Prishtina.”
Additionally, Israel’s European Under-21 Championship qualifiers versus Estonia and Germany, originally set for October 12 and 17, respectively, have also been subject to postponement.
Moreover, UEFA has canceled an under-17 mini-tournament featuring Israel, Belgium, Gibraltar, and Wales, which was initially planned to run from Wednesday until October 17 but has now been deferred.
Nevertheless, the status of Israel’s match against Kosovo on Saturday will be closely evaluated in the upcoming days to determine its feasibility.
