Incident Overview
Two charcoal sellers were killed on Tuesday in a violent clash with local hunters in Zaranda village, Toro Local Government Area, Bauchi State. The altercation has led to widespread protests and disruptions on the Bauchi–Jos Federal highway.
Details of the Clash
Reports indicate that the conflict arose when the charcoal sellers refused to pay a settlement demanded by the hunters. The sellers were transporting charcoal from the bush to the village when the hunters confronted them, insisting on a payment or the surrender of their goods.
As the dispute intensified, the sellers attempted to leave the scene, which reportedly provoked the hunters. The hunters then fired their dane guns at the sellers, resulting in their immediate deaths. Fearing reprisals, the hunters fled the area.

According to Wakil, only one person died, while three others, including Abubakar Yahaya, 20, Hussaini Yunusa, 20, and Yayangida Hussaini, 16, were injured. Yahaya later succumbed to his injuries at the Primary Health Care Center in Zaranda Gari.
