Two Fulani herders, Musa Haruna (25) and Saliu Sanusi (27), were brought before an Ado-Ekiti Chief Magistrates’ Court on Friday, facing charges of unlawful grazing.
The prosecutor, Inspector Sodiq Adeniyi, informed the court that the defendants were accused of grazing their cattle on restricted government land on September 30, at approximately 10:00 a.m. in Ado-Ekiti. This act, according to the prosecution, violates Section 2 of the Prohibition of Cattle and Other Ruminants Grazing Law in Ekiti State, 2016, and is punishable under Section 7.
Both defendants pleaded not guilty to the charge. Their legal counsel, Mrs. Adunni Olanipekun, requested bail on their behalf, assuring the court that they would comply with all bail conditions.
Chief Magistrate Dolamu Babalogbon granted the defendants bail at N50,000 each, with one surety in like sum, and adjourned the case to October 31 for further hearing.
