Troops of the One Division of the Nigerian Army and Operation Whirl Punch have successfully neutralized six terrorists and apprehended three suspects during special operations in Giwa Local Government Area of Kaduna State.
According to a statement by Samuel Aruwan, the State Commissioner for Internal Security and Home Affairs, the troops acted on credible intelligence regarding terrorist activities in the Galadimawa general area in Giwa LGA. The troops initiated their operation by establishing a position at Sabon Sara village, where they discovered a herd of rustled cattle abandoned by the insurgents as they fled the location.
The troops recovered the cattle and handed them over to the local residents before continuing their advance.
Aruwan noted that the troops later encountered the insurgents at the Market Square of Galadimawa. A swift exchange of gunfire ensued, resulting in the neutralization of six insurgents.
During a subsequent search of the market area, the troops arrested three suspected collaborators and informants believed to have been providing logistical support to the criminals. They also recovered two motorcycles and four mobile phones.
Upon receiving the report, Kaduna State Governor, Senator Uba Sani, commended the troops, led by Major General Mayirenso Saraso, General Officer Commanding One Division and Commander of Operation Whirl Punch, for their success.
The Governor urged the security forces to conduct thorough investigations to dismantle more criminal networks. The State Government also appealed to residents in frontline communities to continue providing timely intelligence to the nearest security formations.
Additionally, the government warned informants aiding terrorists by providing information on the movements of security forces and citizens to desist, emphasizing that they are being monitored for prosecution.
