Tragedy Strikes: Four Teenage Girls Drown in Jigawa River 💔

A heartbreaking incident occurred in Malkaderi village, Gagarawa Local Government Area of Jigawa State, where four teenage girls tragically drowned in a river. The girls, who were all from the same family, had gone for a swim on Saturday evening when the tragedy struck.

According to local reports, five girls ventured into the pond, but sadly, only one survived. The victims — Saina’u Musa (12), Fiddausi Ado (11), Habiba Musa (12), and Bahijja Musa (13) — were found lifeless in the water by locals who tried to rescue them. Fortunately, an eight-year-old girl, Sahura Audu, survived the incident and was promptly resuscitated.

The Jigawa State Police Command, through its spokesman, DSP Lawan Shiisu Adam, confirmed the unfortunate event. In a statement released to the press, he explained that the police, along with local divers, quickly launched a rescue mission, but it was too late for the four victims.

Medical personnel at Gagarawa Primary Health Care declared the four girls dead upon arrival, while Sahura was treated and discharged.

Jigawa State Commissioner of Police, CP AT Abdullahi, expressed his heartfelt condolences to the grieving family, praying for the souls of the departed. He also urged parents to closely monitor their children and discourage swimming in bodies of water, especially during the rainy season when water levels rise.
