Media personality Toke Makinwa has openly criticized Nigerian artist 2Baba (2face Idibia) for announcing his separation and impending divorce from his wife, Annie Idibia, on Instagram.
In a Sunday post, 2Baba disclosed that the couple had been separated for a while and were now filing for divorce, marking the end of their 12-year marriage.
Responding to 2Baba’s announcement, Toke commented directly on his Instagram post, condemning his decision to make the matter public. She wrote:
“This is wrong on all levels, and you should be ashamed of yourself for bringing this here. Bring it on. If you think she’s alone, let me tell you here that you’ll have to fight all of us.”
Toke continued to voice her frustration on her Instagram story, addressing those who chose to remain neutral about the situation. She stated:
“What is wrong is wrong. As a woman, if you sit on the fence on this one, it’ll either miss you or touch your daughter or any female in your family. No one is innocent, and if you want to bring the media into it, knowing what is happening, we will fight for her.”
In another Instagram story on Monday, Toke questioned 2Baba’s timing and rationale for making the divorce announcement public. She emphasized the importance of empathy and hinted at hidden details about the situation.
“Nobody is asking anyone to stay in a situation that no longer serves them; if you must leave, then do so. But why bring this online right now? We know what is going on behind closed doors.
“The world doesn’t know everything, and with opinions already flying around, this is the wrong time. A handful of people know the truth, and time will reveal it. Timing and empathy matter. You preach love but contribute to a negative narrative when you know what’s truly happening behind the scenes,” Toke wrote.
Her remarks have drawn mixed reactions from fans and observers, with many debating her involvement in the issue.
