Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State has urged the princes who filed court cases against the newly appointed Soun of Ogbomoso, Oba Afolabi Ghandi Olaoye, to promptly withdraw their legal challenges. Makinde asserted that if the litigants do not withdraw their cases promptly, he will actively engage in the efforts to foster peace and harmony within the city.
The governor made this pronouncement during the official presentation of staff and instruments of office to the new monarch on Tuesday. Dignitaries in attendance included former Vice-President Professor Yemi Osinbajo, Secretary to the Government of the Federation Senator George Akume, Governor Ademola Adeleke of Osun State, the Ooni of Ife Oba Enitan Adeyeye Ogunwusi, and the Olubadan of Ibadanland Oba Mohood Olalekan Balogun.
Several princes within the Olaoye family in Ogbomoso had initiated legal proceedings against the nomination and confirmation of Afolabi Ghandi Olaoye as the Soun of Ogbomoso. Governor Makinde called on those still contesting the throne to withdraw their cases immediately, emphasizing that the time for contention has passed.
Addressing the concerned parties, Makinde stated, “The people fighting should stop forthwith, but if they fail to stop, as the Executive Governor of Oyo State, I will join the fight to ensure peace and progress of Ogbomosoland.” He also highlighted the importance of constitutional roles for traditional rulers and mentioned the impending establishment of the Rule of Law Enforcement Authority, seeking support from the traditional rulers and the community.
Expressing good wishes, Governor Makinde concluded, “On behalf of the Ogbomoso sons and daughters and the good people of Oyo State, I wish Kabiyesi a long, peaceful, and successful reign.”
