The Senator representing Kogi West in the National Assembly, Smart Adeyemi, expressed his belief that President Bola Tinubu would dismiss underperforming ministers within six months. Adeyemi made these remarks during an interview with Arise Television on Wednesday.
Adeyemi emphasized that Tinubu’s history reflects his quick action when it comes to non-performing officials. He stated, “What Nigerians should know about President Bola Tinubu today, including those who are ministers, is that from his track record, once you don’t perform in six months, he shows you the way out.” He added that Tinubu is determined to make a substantial impact and is eager to enhance Nigeria, recovering any lost ground.
He underlined that Tinubu’s intention is to bring about positive change and that he would not allow non-performing ministers to linger in their roles. “Those who are being nominated or given appointments, I celebrate you but if you don’t perform, this man will show them the way out. It’s not a question of leaving them for eight years or four years. Asiwaju doesn’t have that kind of track record,” Adeyemi remarked.
Adeyemi also mentioned that the collective legislative experience of both President Tinubu and Vice President Kashim Shettima would contribute to their successful governance. He believed that politicians with Senate backgrounds, like Tinubu and Shettima, cannot afford to fail since they have a deep understanding of the needs and aspirations of Nigerians.
Furthermore, Adeyemi pointed out that this administration is unique in that it’s led by politicians with extensive experience in the legislative branch. He cited states governed by former senators, such as Hope Uzodubma in Imo State, as examples of outstanding performance resulting from their deep understanding of the concerns of the people.
Adeyemi expressed confidence that Tinubu’s government would revitalize dormant economic and productive sectors in the country, fostering opportunities for genuine economic development. He also commended Tinubu for his approach, focusing on the quality of thought and how individuals’ minds work rather than their ethnicity or religion.
