President Bola Tinubu has voiced deep concern over the recent flooding that devastated parts of Maiduguri, Borno’s capital, following the overflow of the Alau Dam. The flood, described as the worst in decades, has displaced thousands of residents and severely impacted essential facilities, including the Maiduguri Teaching Hospital and the Post Office.
In a statement released by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, President Tinubu extended his condolences to the government and people of Borno, especially to families who have lost their homes and livelihoods. He emphasized the Federal Government’s readiness to assist those affected.
Tinubu urged for the immediate evacuation of residents from the worst-hit areas and assured Governor Babagana Zulum that the Federal Government will collaborate with state authorities to meet the urgent humanitarian needs. The President has also directed the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) to provide immediate relief to the victims, reaffirming his commitment to mobilizing federal resources to support the state during this crisis.
