U.S. Vice President JD Vance has reiterated the Trump administration’s firm stance on immigration, stating that green card holders and certain foreign students may face deportation if deemed not in the country’s best interest.
During an interview with Fox News on Thursday, Vance stressed that possessing a green card does not guarantee permanent residency, warning that deportation rates will increase as the government intensifies efforts to remove illegal migrants.
“A green card holder does not have an indefinite right to remain in the United States,” he stated.
“This issue is not primarily about free speech. While national security is a factor, the more significant question is who the American public believes should be part of our national community.
“If the secretary of state and the president determine that an individual should not be in America and they have no legal right to stay, the decision is straightforward,” he added.
Vance further suggested that foreign students could also face deportation if considered a threat to national interests. “I believe we will see some student visa holders deported if it is determined that their presence is not in the best interest of the United States,” he said.
Additionally, he criticized the high number of foreign students at elite U.S. universities, arguing that they occupy spots that could otherwise go to American students.
“Many of these foreign students pay full tuition, and in institutions like Columbia or Harvard, this often means that a well-qualified, middle-class American student from the heartland is denied a place because a Chinese oligarch willing to pay $100,000 a year takes it instead,” he contended.
