The Supreme Court has rejected Darlington Nwokocha’s request for a review of the Appeals Court’s decision that removed him from his position as the Senator representing Abia Central district.
Nwokocha had sought the Supreme Court’s intervention to overturn the Appeals Court ruling and reinstate him as the Abia Central Senator. He argued that the panel’s reasons for his removal in November were unjustified, emphasizing his significant victory in the February 25 Senatorial election in Abia Central.
However, the Supreme Court, on Tuesday, dismissed Nwokocha’s motion and imposed a two million naira fine against him, payable to Senator Austin Akobundu.
This dismissal follows a similar outcome last week when the Abuja division of the Appeals Court rejected Nwokocha’s motion for a review of judgment, imposing a five million naira fine on him and his counsel. The fine is to be paid to Senator Austin Akobundu and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
In response to these developments, Abraham Amah, the Vice Chairman/acting Publicity Secretary of the PDP in Abia, expressed satisfaction, characterizing the judgment as another triumph for the PDP, Senator Austin Akobundu, the people of Abia Central, and Nigerian democracy.
