Nigeria’s national football team, the Super Eagles, celebrated their first international friendly victory since 2019 with a thrilling 3-2 win against a 10-man Mozambique side on Monday.
Terem Moffi, Frank Onyeka, and Moses Simon were the heroes of the game, finding the back of the net in this exciting encounter held in Portimäo, Portugal.
It was Mozambique who initially took the lead, with Geny Catamo scoring a goal just seven minutes into the match. However, Terem Moffi, who plays for OGC Nice, swiftly equalized the score with a close-range shot 13 minutes later.
Nigeria began to assert their dominance, and Brentford’s Frank Onyeka capitalized on an opportunity at the half-hour mark, firing a shot from the edge of the box to give Nigeria a 2-1 lead.
The Mambas of Mozambique found themselves in further trouble when they conceded a penalty due to a handball in the 18-yard box. Moses Simon confidently converted the penalty, extending Nigeria’s lead to 3-1.
The first half concluded with Nigeria holding a comfortable lead, a momentous achievement for the team in friendly matches after a long drought.
Mozambique managed to pull one back with a goal from Faisal Bangal, but it wasn’t enough to prevent Nigeria from securing a well-deserved victory in this exciting international friendly.
