The Senate has officially ratified the appointments of Ola Olukoyede and Mohammed Hamajoda to serve as the Chairman and Secretary of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC). This decision also saw the confirmation of Halima Shehu as the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the National Social Investment Programme Agency (NSIPA).
Ola Olukoyede assumed the role of acting chairman of the EFCC, stepping into the position after the suspension of Abdulrasheed Bawa, the former head of the anti-graft agency, by the president.
During the rigorous screening and confirmation process, Olukoyede emphasized the prevailing financial crises that have besieged various institutions and systems within Nigeria. He vowed to address this issue with impartiality, adhering strictly to the law and without showing favoritism. Furthermore, he stressed his commitment to prioritizing preventive measures over enforcement strategies in combating financial misconduct.
