The organization commends the National Assembly for its initiative in introducing a bill to establish the Youth Development Commission.

The Youth Assembly of Nigeria, a pressure group, has expressed appreciation for the National Assembly’s leadership in considering the bill to establish the Youth Development Commission. In a communiqué issued at the conclusion of the 1-Day National Youth Summit held at the Nigerian National Merit House in Abuja, the organization urged federal lawmakers to expedite action for the bill’s logical conclusion. The statement, signed by the National Speaker, Rt Hon Shuaibu Sani, emphasized the commission’s potential to address youth development and contribute to nation-building.

Highlighting the limitations of the government in providing employment opportunities for Nigerian youth, the group advocated for a focus on skill acquisition, vocations, entrepreneurship, and agriculture as essential avenues for youth development. They called on the government to promptly create a conducive environment for the economic flourishing of young people. The organization stressed that neglecting the youth population could exacerbate security challenges, emphasizing the government’s constitutional responsibility to address youth-related issues and minimize instability and uprisings across the states.

Regarding President Bola Tinubu’s decision to remove the oil subsidy, the Youth Assembly of Nigeria supported the move, deeming it timely and appropriate. However, they acknowledged the resultant hardships faced by Nigerian youth and urged all levels of government to take decisive measures to alleviate their plight while ensuring the efficient utilization of saved resources for the benefit of the people.
