The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has reported the apprehension of five robbery suspects specializing in targeting hotels and Point of Sale (PoS) operators in Calabar.
According to Mr. Charles Brown, the NSCDC Commandant in Cross River, the suspects, aged between 15 and 25, were apprehended in the early hours of Wednesday based on intelligence received.
Brown disclosed that the arrests occurred at various locations and that the suspects were found in possession of charms, weapons, ammunition, and other incriminating items.
“Recently, they conducted a robbery at a hotel in Calabar South, where their identities were captured by the CCTV system installed in the hotel. We also traced them through a stolen phone from the hotel. We have been monitoring them for a while, and this morning, we arrested one of them who led us to the remaining four. Currently, their leader is still at large, but we are determined to apprehend him,” explained the commandant.
He further stated that once the investigation is complete, the suspects will be handed over to the police for prosecution. Brown emphasized the commitment of security agencies to collaborate in making the state inhospitable for criminals and encouraged the public to provide relevant information to aid in eradicating criminal activities.
