The Nigerian Shippers Council Raises Cargo Charges by 125 Percent

The Nigerian Shippers Council has recently implemented a significant increase in Break bulk cargo charges, raising them by 125%. This decision was reached during a meeting held on Tuesday, which brought together terminal operators, shipping companies, freight forwarders, and other stakeholders within the industry.

The council justified this charge adjustment by citing the evolving dynamics within the sector. The statement released by the council explains, “Break bulk cargo charges have now been adjusted from 125% to 250%. This alteration is a response to the shifting landscape of the industry and is intended to ensure equitable compensation for the services provided.”

Furthermore, the resolution assures stakeholders that any grievances regarding inefficiencies caused by terminal operators will be promptly addressed. The council’s commitment to addressing these concerns aims to enhance overall operational efficiency and, in turn, boost customer satisfaction.

It’s worth noting that this decision comes in the midst of concerns raised by shippers regarding the high cargo charges at Nigeria’s ports.
