The Executive Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Mr. Ola Olukoyede, has issued a directive to all EFCC staff members, urging them to promptly declare their assets in accordance with civil service regulations and procedures.
In an official statement released by Dele Oyewale, the Head of Media and Publicity for the commission, the Chairman conveyed this directive during an address to senior staff members at the corporate headquarters of EFCC in Abuja on Tuesday.
Mr. Olukoyede emphasized that it is imperative for all staff members below Level 17 to declare their assets, with the understanding that these declarations will be subject to investigation. He asserted that the fight against corruption necessitates those at the forefront to exhibit the highest standards of integrity.
He stated, “All of us are going to declare our assets, from Level 17 downward. I did mine, so there’s no reason for anyone to be afraid to do the same. Even the Commission Secretary did. You all may also have done it in the past, but there’s a need for all of us to do it again. We will declare our assets, and we are going to investigate it.”
The Chairman emphasized the importance of leading by example in maintaining a reputation above reproach as anti-corruption advocates. He underscored the significance of maintaining clean hands in the fight against corruption and urged all staff members to declare their assets.
Furthermore, Mr. Olukoyede urged EFCC staff members to uphold professionalism, integrity, and impartiality in their roles, cautioning that those who compromise their duties and positions will face serious consequences.
He also emphasized the necessity of adhering to the rule of law, pointing out that the EFCC is a legal creation and that all operations must align with the legal framework. He stressed that conforming to established norms and international standards is pivotal in the agency’s mission.
