The Lagos State government has recommenced the demolition of structures along the drainage system on the Lekki 2-Ikota channel

On October 26, the Lagos State government resumed its efforts to clear structures obstructing the drainage system along the Lekki 2-Ikota channel. This initiative aims to address the recurring issue of flooding in the area, with the government having commenced the demolition of properties on the drainage channel on October 14. This ongoing operation has unfortunately left several residents without homes as their properties were demolished.

The state government has maintained its stance that it will not provide compensation to the owners of the demolished houses. This decision is based on the premise that these property owners were duly informed of the obstruction their buildings posed to the smooth flow of rainwater into the drainage systems.
