The Minister of Budget and National Planning, Atiku Bagudu, expressed his concerns about the financial constraints facing the country in light of its growing population. Dr. Sampson Ebimaro, the ministry’s Director of International Cooperation, conveyed Bagudu’s message during an event in Abuja on October 20.
Bagudu stressed the need for non-governmental organizations to collaborate with the government to address the challenges arising from the country’s expanding population. He highlighted the rapid population growth, escalating unemployment rates, and the burden of high inflation as pressing issues.
He said, “The government is grappling with substantial challenges, particularly due to a revenue deficit. Financial resources are scarce, and the government is struggling to meet its salary obligations. Economic growth is sluggish while the population continues to surge. The nation is grappling with escalating unemployment amid soaring inflation rates.”
