Suspected Fulani herdsmen, believed to be gunmen, carried out an attack on a Benue Links bus transporting passengers to Otukpo via the Naka road in Gwer West LGA, at Tyolaha village. During the assault, one passenger tragically lost their life, and several others sustained injuries.
This recent incident is part of a disturbing pattern, as marauding herdsmen have previously conducted similar brutal attacks on travelers along the deteriorating road. Tyolaha village, in particular, has become a frequent target for such attacks by suspected Fulani herdsmen.
The assailants, numbering around 15, effectively suppressed any attempts at resistance from their victims, allowing them to escape without hindrance. The recurring nature of these attacks has driven many residents to flee the area, while farmers have been compelled to relocate from this part of the road. Those who remain are urgently appealing to government authorities and security agencies for protection.
Anekwe Catherine, the Benue Police Public Relations Officer, has confirmed the incident to the DAILY POST. She stated, “A bus belonging to Benue Links, en route to Otukpo, was attacked by unidentified gunmen, resulting in injuries to three individuals, including women, and the unfortunate death of one person this morning.”
