Yoruba nation activist, Sunday Adeyemo, commonly known as Sunday Igboho, asserted on Sunday that President Bola Tinubu would not tolerate the lawlessness that resulted in herders killing farmers during the previous administration of former President Muhammadu Buhari.
Igboho issued a warning to herders against contemplating further attacks on farmers in the Southwest in response to a statement by the national president of Miyetti Allah Kautal Hore, Abdullahi Bello Bodejo. Bodejo had dismissed Igboho’s recent quit notice to Fulani herders to leave the Southwest, which was given in October, stating that it was unacceptable.
In his reaction, Igboho dismissed Bodejo as a mere attention seeker and emphasized that Nigeria’s Constitution does not support indiscriminate killings of farmers, rape of their wives, and destruction of farmlands.
In a statement he endorsed, Igboho said, “Some alleged killer Fulani herders must be stopped from reigniting tension and an atmosphere of insecurity in any part of Nigeria, especially in the agrarian communities and settlements in Yorubaland, by the security agencies.”
“It is crucial for the Miyetti Allah group to be aware that the lawlessness witnessed under former President Muhammadu Buhari will not be tolerated under the current President, Bola Tinubu,” he added.
Igboho urged Bodejo and his group to abandon the idea of unprovoked attacks on farmers, especially in the South West, where many innocent farmers have already suffered. He emphasized that relevant security agencies and the people would not allow them to exacerbate the plight of the common man.
