Ciara recently spoke candidly about the realization that her past relationship with rapper Future had no long-term future during a new podcast interview.
The singer disclosed these insights during a conversation on the Call Her Daddy podcast with host Alex Cooper. According to the 37-year-old music sensation, it wasn’t until she and the renowned rapper welcomed their first child that she began to doubt the viability of their long-term compatibility.
Ciara, who is currently expecting her fourth child, her third with her husband Russell Wilson, compared this realization to a shift in taste. She metaphorically explained it as a change in one’s palate, saying, “It’s almost like your taste buds change.”
She went on to emphasize the importance of self-reflection, saying, “You’ve also got to sometimes look in the mirror and reflect on yourself. What are things that I could be doing differently in my life? I’m seeking change, but what does that truly entail?”
The former couple, Ciara and Future (whose real name is Nayvadius DeMun Cash), began their relationship in 2012 and welcomed their son, Future Zahir, in May 2014. However, their relationship ended by August of the same year due to allegations of infidelity.

Ciara noted that she became more serious about life after becoming a mother and felt that Future didn’t share the same sense of maturation. She emphasized the significance of responsibility that comes with parenthood, stating, “When you have a child, it’s very important to me, it’s no time to play around. I am now responsible for another life, so what am I doing, how am I thinking that through?”
The singer also expressed her desire for joy and fulfillment in a relationship. Her past relationship with Future had left her feeling drained and exhausted. She explained, “When you’re tired, you’re tired, and nobody wants to be tired all the time. Those are the thoughts that crossed my mind when I made a pivotal decision in my life.”

In 2015, Ciara began dating quarterback Russell Wilson, and they became engaged by March 2016. The couple exchanged vows in a beautiful castle in Cheshire, England, in July of the same year, marking a new and more promising chapter in Ciara’s personal life.
