Shell suspends all Red Sea shipments after Houthi attacks on tankers

Shell has halted all shipments through the Red Sea following attacks by Houthi rebels on oil tankers in that route, as reported by the Wall Street Journal.

The suspension, described as indefinite by insiders, comes after a Shell-chartered tanker carrying Indian jet fuel was targeted by jihadists using a drone and rebel boats. Although oil prices increased by approximately 1 percent, analysts noted a limited impact on overall output.

The Houthi attacks on shipping in the Red Sea have escalated amidst the Israel-Hamas conflict. Additionally, the U.S. recently released images of Iranian missile parts and weaponry seized from a ship headed to Yemen, highlighting concerns about arms flow to the rebels.

A new ship in the Red Sea also faced suspected fire from the Houthis, causing damage but no injuries. This incident marks the latest interception of weapon shipments by the U.S. Navy and its allies, aiming to curb threats to global trade posed by the rebels.
