SGF Akume Tells Atiku and Northerners to Wait Until 2031 for Presidency

Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Senator George Akume, has called on former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and other northern politicians to exercise patience and focus on 2031 for the presidency. He emphasized that 2027 is not the region’s turn, advocating for President Bola Tinubu to complete his second term before the next presidential race.

SGF’s Call for Patience Regarding 2027 Presidency

During an appearance on TVC’s Politics on Sunday, hosted by Femi Akande, Akume addressed the political ambitions surrounding the 2027 presidency. He advised northern politicians, including Atiku Abubakar, to hold off their ambitions and look towards 2031 instead. Akume argued that President Tinubu, a southerner, should be allowed to serve a potential second term and continue his efforts in repositioning the nation.

President Tinubu should be allowed to serve his second term. Those from the North, including Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, should look beyond 2027 and consider 2031,” Akume stated. He further added, “If it is God’s will for Atiku Abubakar to become President, even at the age of 90, it will happen. But for now, they should let President Tinubu continue his work.”

SGF Defends Tax Reform Bills

In addition to his comments on the 2027 presidency, Akume also weighed in on the ongoing legislative processes surrounding tax reform bills in Nigeria. He defended the bills, describing them as visionary legislation aimed at rescuing the nation’s economy.

“These bills are well-envisioned for Nigeria and Nigerians. Let us allow the legislative processes to take their course. These reforms will ultimately benefit everyone when fully implemented,” the SGF stated, urging Nigerians to support the bills as they pass through the National Assembly.

Akume emphasized that the tax reform bills are designed to improve the country’s financial systems and, by extension, benefit the populace in the long term.
