Agents from the Department of State Services, Niger State Command, executed a raid on the residence of an alleged terrorist in the Kulobe community within the Gbeganu area of Minna. During this operation, they uncovered a significant stockpile of AK-47 rifles and a substantial quantity of ammunition.
According to reports by Punch, the operation took place in the early hours of Tuesday, October 24, 2023, between 1 a.m. and 3 a.m., prompted by a tip-off from concerned neighbors.
The suspect, alerted by his home security system, observed the DSS operatives approaching his residence and subsequently engaged them in a fierce gun battle. He even resorted to using a rocket launcher to breach a section of his property’s fence, allowing him to escape. In the wake of his departure, his wife and children were apprehended by the security personnel.
An undisclosed security source revealed that they found an extensive inventory of weaponry within the residence, which included more than 150 AK-47 rifles, explosives, a rocket launcher, anti-aircraft rifles, and an excess of 3,000 rounds of ammunition.
Residents of the Kulobe community and neighboring areas attested to hearing the intense exchange of gunfire and the detonation of the rocket launcher.
“We initially believed that bandits had infiltrated our community. The intensity of the gunfire between the alleged terrorists and the security forces was deafening, causing damage to some of my electronic appliances and furniture. The commotion was so intense that it gave the impression of a sizable gang of bandits,” recounted a local source.
Furthermore, it was learned that a watchman residing nearby, Mubarak Abubakar, sustained an injury from a stray bullet and is presently under medical care at the IBB Specialist Hospital in Minna.
