The troops of 1 Division of the Nigerian Army have successfully apprehended two individuals suspected of providing ammunition to terrorist groups. This operation, conducted in Kaduna, also resulted in the recovery of weapons and 16 motorcycles. Lt.-Col. Musa Yahaya, the Acting Deputy Director of Army Public Relations for 1 Division, confirmed these significant developments in a statement issued on Wednesday in Kaduna.
According to Yahaya, the arrests were made following credible intelligence. The troops of 1 Division, Nigerian Army, acted swiftly in the early hours of October 24 to capture two individuals believed to be collaborators with terrorists and suppliers of ammunition. These individuals were located in the Awon general area of Kachia Local Government in Kaduna State, based on information provided by a previously arrested collaborator in their custody.
The items recovered from these suspects included a locally crafted AK-47 rifle, two dane guns, eight rounds of 9mm ammunition, seven live cartridges, and five expended cartridge shells. These illicit items were discovered buried within the compound of the criminals.
In a separate operation, Yahaya reported that the troops, while conducting a clearance operation in the Dogon Daji-Saulawa general area of Birnin Gwari Local Government Area, came into contact with terrorists and criminal elements. A confrontation ensued, leading to a gunfight in which the troops effectively forced the criminals to scatter and retreat. As a result, the soldiers also seized a G3 rifle, 16 motorcycles, two locally crafted guns, and a mobile phone.
Maj.-Gen. Valentine Okoro, the General Officer Commanding (GOC) of 1 Division Nigerian Army and Force Commander of Operation Whirl Punch, has commended the troops for their efforts and charged them to maintain their operational momentum. Their mission is to eliminate all criminal elements from the areas under the division’s jurisdiction.
