In anticipation of its 12th edition set for November 2023, the Africa International Film Festival (AFRIFF) has unveiled its list of honorees, celebrating 11 accomplished Nollywood actors for their exceptional performances in films released over the past year.
During the AFRIFF globe awards night, these remarkable actors and actresses will be bestowed with special honors, generously sponsored by MTN.
Among the distinguished awardees is Blossom Chukwujekwu, recognized for his stellar portrayal in “The Trade,” a role that previously earned him a nomination for the Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards (AMVCA) in the Best Actor in a Drama category.
Chidi Mokeme is also a part of this esteemed list, lauded for his electrifying depiction of Scar in “Shanty Town,” a performance that earned him a nomination alongside Chukwujekwu.
Tobi Bakre, who clinched the Best Actor category at the AMVCA ceremony in May for his action-packed role in “Brotherhood,” secures another spot on the AFRIFF honors roster, this time for his outstanding action star performance in “Gangs of Lagos.”
Kunle Remi, who, somewhat controversially, missed out on an AMVCA nomination, will finally be duly acknowledged for his remarkable lead role in “Anikulapo.”
Richard Mofe-Damijo, lauded for his career-defining portrayal as Paul Edima in the record-breaking Netflix film “The Black Book,” will also be among the recipients of an AFRIFF award.
Other actors set to receive this prestigious recognition are Nse Ikpe-Etim for her stirring performance in “4-4-44,” Ini Edo for her colorful role alongside Mokeme in “Shanty Town,” Lateef Adedimeji and Femi Adebayo-Salami for their roles in the recent Yoruba epic hit “Jagun Jagun,” Chioma Chukwuka for her contribution to “Gangs of Lagos,” and Funke Akindele for her role in “Battle on Buka Street.”
According to the organizers, “The #AFRIFFHonours serve as a platform to recognize and celebrate the extraordinary talents and dedication of individuals who have significantly influenced the Nigerian and African film industry.”
AFRIFF is scheduled to take place in Lagos State from November 5 to November 11, with a primary focus on promoting and showcasing indigenous content to a global audience.
