Elder statesman Bode George has urged the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, to end his feud with Governor Siminalayi Fubara of Rivers State.
Speaking to the press on Thursday, George criticized both party leaders and members for failing to address the situation, emphasizing that no individual should wield more power than the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) or hold it hostage.
“May I ask those managing the affairs of our party today—what exactly is the offense of Governor Fubara of Rivers State?” George questioned.
He expressed frustration at the seeming apathy toward the ongoing discord in the oil-rich state, adding, “Governor Wike played a major role in ensuring Fubara became the number one citizen of Rivers. The governor has acknowledged this many times. But does that mean Fubara should be treated like a puppet? Why are party members supporting a former governor trying to destabilize the state?”
George also addressed Wike’s controversial behavior, stating:
“He resides in Abuja yet wants to dictate what happens in Rivers. Did his predecessors act this way? Why can’t we put an end to this? It’s high time we learned from our past mistakes. Instead of encouraging division, we should urge these troublemakers to step aside for the party’s progress.”
He also took aim at Wike’s provocative statements, recounting:
“Wike openly threatened to ‘set fire to states,’ yet the APC government he’s aligned with has not sanctioned him. Why hasn’t the PDP taken action either? Why instigate crises within our party? If his loyalty lies elsewhere, why not defect to the APC openly?”
In a personal appeal to Wike, George said:
“You are my political son. I understand you were hurt during the last PDP presidential contest, but it’s time to move on. Nobody is bigger than the party. Let’s set aside past grievances and unite for the greater good of our political party.”
George concluded with a call to action, urging PDP leaders to prioritize party unity and strength.
