Governor Sim Fubara of Rivers State and his immediate predecessor, Nyesom Wike, have reached a resolution to bring an end to the ongoing political crisis in the state.
According to a report by DAILY POST, the agreement was brokered after a meeting involving President Bola Tinubu and other key stakeholders with the feuding factions on Monday.
A document arising from the discussions stipulates that all impeachment proceedings initiated against Fubara by the Rivers State House of Assembly must be immediately dropped. It further mandates the withdrawal of all legal actions initiated by Fubara and his team concerning the political turmoil in the state.
Additional directives outlined in the document include the recognition of the leadership of the Rivers State House of Assembly led by the Rt Hon Martin Amaewhule, along with the acknowledgment of the 27 members who resigned from the PDP.
The document emphasizes the immediate reinstatement of remunerations and benefits for all members of the Rivers State House of Assembly and their staff. It also asserts that the Governor of Rivers State should refrain from interfering with the complete funding of the legislative body.
Furthermore, the Rivers State House of Assembly is granted the autonomy to choose its venue for conducting legislative business without any interference or hindrance from the Executive arm of the government.
Governor Sim Fubara is required to re-present the state budget to a properly constituted Rivers State House of Assembly.
The document also calls for the resubmission of the names of all commissioners in the Rivers State Executive Council who resigned due to the political crisis for approval by the House of Assembly.
Importantly, it declares the nullification of the dissolution of the Local Government administration, stating that there should be no caretaker committee for the local governments in Rivers State, and the dissolution shall not be recognized.
