Rita Edochie tackles Yul for demanding bride price from May

Veteran Nollywood actress, Rita Edochie, has criticized Yul Edochie for seeking the return of the bride price from his estranged wife, May Edochie.

In a Facebook post addressing the situation, Rita Edochie, who is Yul’s aunt, emphasized that it is typically the man who, along with his kinsmen, approaches the woman’s hometown to request the return of the bride price. She asserted that May, as the woman, does not have the authority to initiate the return of the bride price.

Rita Edochie explained that May had been seeking a divorce and had urged Yul to come and retrieve the bride price. However, Yul hesitated, believing that May might eventually accept his desire for a polygamous relationship. It was only in late 2023, when the matter went to court, that Yul began demanding the return of the bride price.

She further clarified that the case is currently under the jurisdiction of the court, and no action can be taken until the legal proceedings are concluded. Rita Edochie emphasized that the return of the bride price requires consent and a court order, urging everyone involved to await the court’s decision.
