President Bola Ahmed Tinubu will travel to Dar es Salaam, Tanzania, on Sunday to attend the Africa Heads of State Energy Summit, scheduled for January 27-28, 2025.
The summit, hosted by the Tanzanian government in collaboration with the African Development Bank Group and the World Bank, focuses on advancing the ambitious initiative, Mission 300—a plan to provide electricity access to 300 million people in Africa by 2030.
The event will bring together African leaders, private sector stakeholders, development partners, and civil society groups to strategize on accelerating energy access across the continent. Discussions will cover key areas such as:
- Expanding energy access in underserved regions.
- Promoting renewable energy solutions.
- Enhancing energy efficiency.
- Mobilizing private sector investments.
According to a statement released on Saturday by the Special Adviser to the President, Bayo Onanuga, the summit will serve as a platform for sharing resources, knowledge, and expertise to tackle Africa’s energy challenges.
Key Summit Activities
- Day One: Participating nations, including Nigeria, will present their national energy strategies, called compacts, which outline their roadmaps for achieving universal energy access within the next five years.
- Day Two: Heads of State will endorse the Dar es Salaam Energy Declaration, a unified framework aimed at guiding Africa toward the Mission 300 goals.
President Tinubu is set to deliver a national address, reaffirming Nigeria’s dedication to achieving universal energy access and highlighting its clean energy initiatives and integrated energy delivery strategies across the continent.

President Tinubu will be accompanied by:
- Ambassador Bianca Odumegwu-Ojukwu, Minister of State for Foreign Affairs.
- Adebayo Adelabu, Minister of Power.
- Olu Verheijen, Special Adviser to the President on Energy.

The president is expected to return to Abuja after the summit concludes.
