Premier League Official Sacked Over Offensive Video
Premier League referee David Coote has been fired following a scandal involving offensive remarks about former Liverpool manager Jürgen Klopp.
Coote, 42, was suspended last month after a video surfaced on social media where he used derogatory language and called Klopp “arrogant.”
The Professional Game Match Officials Limited (PGMOL) announced the termination of Coote’s employment, citing a serious breach of his contract. They emphasized their commitment to supporting Coote’s well-being.
The video is believed to be related to a 2020 match between Liverpool and Burnley, where Klopp criticized Coote’s lenient officiating.
Coote is also facing UEFA disciplinary action over a separate incident involving alleged drug use during Euro 2024. Additionally, the Football Association is investigating claims of match-fixing related to a Championship game.
His last Premier League match was Liverpool’s 2-0 victory over Aston Villa on November 9th.
