The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) has confirmed that the Port Harcourt Refinery is currently producing 1.4 million liters of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) daily, dismissing claims that the facility is non-operational.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, NNPCL’s Chief Corporate Communications Officer, Olufemi Soneye, clarified that the refinery is operating at 70% of its installed 60,000 barrels-per-day capacity, with plans to scale up production to 90%.
“We are aware of unfounded claims by certain individuals suggesting that the refinery is not producing products. For clarity, the Old Port Harcourt Refinery is currently operating at 70% of its installed capacity, with plans to ramp up to 90%,” Soneye stated.
He detailed the refinery’s daily production output as follows:
- Straight-Run Gasoline (Naphtha): Blended into 1.4 million liters of PMS
- Kerosene: 900,000 liters
- Automotive Gas Oil (Diesel): 1.5 million liters
- Low Pour Fuel Oil (LPFO): 2.1 million liters
The NNPCL reaffirmed its commitment to optimizing the refinery’s capacity to enhance local fuel production and meet Nigeria’s energy needs.
