Police warn POS operators that transactions exceeding N500,000 may lead to complications.

The Delta State Police have issued a strong warning to Point of Sale (POS) operators, advising them to avoid conducting transactions exceeding N500,000.

According to the Command’s spokesperson, SP Bright Edafe, such large transactions could potentially link POS operators to criminal activities, especially kidnapping. He cited an incident where a POS operator processed a ransom payment of N4,000,000 for kidnappers and only earned N40,000 in profit from the deal.

“Don’t become a tool for kidnappers to collect ransom money. It can be traced back to you,” Edafe cautioned.

His message to POS operators was clear: transactions above N500,000 could put them at risk of serious legal trouble. “A POS operator received N4,000,000 ransom from kidnappers and only made N40,000 in profit. Don’t let this happen to you.”

Edafe emphasized the need for vigilance and compliance with federal laws, which set strict limits on transaction amounts to curb criminal misuse. He urged POS operators to report any suspicious activities and follow the rules to avoid facing legal consequences.

“Be cautious. You may think you’re just doing business, but before your lawyer can intervene, you might end up spending time in jail,” he warned.
