Operatives of the Nigeria Police Force, attached to the Ogun State Command, have successfully neutralized the kidnappers of Mrs. Odumosu, the wife of retired Assistant Inspector-General of Police, Hakeem Odumosu.
Mrs. Odumosu was abducted on Thursday, January 16, 2025, by four masked gunmen outside their residence in the Arepo area of Ogun State. The abduction sparked an immediate response from the Ogun State Police’s anti-kidnapping unit, who initiated a swift investigation and pursuit of the criminals.
In a statement released on January 23, Force Public Relations Officer ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi confirmed that Mrs. Odumosu was rescued unharmed. She is currently undergoing medical evaluation as a precaution.
The statement revealed that during a raid on the kidnappers’ hideout in the swampy creeks of Ikorodu, Lagos State, police operatives successfully recovered the N10 million ransom previously paid and seized several weapons.
“On January 23, 2025, at approximately 6:45 AM, police operatives conducted an intelligence-led raid on a creek in Ikorodu, where the kidnappers were located. Upon arrival, the kidnappers opened fire. Two gunmen were neutralized in the subsequent confrontation, while four others fled, abandoning their weapons,” the statement said.
During the operation, the police recovered four AK-47 rifles, three locally made single-barrel rifles, ammunition of various calibres, and the ransom money.
IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun commended the Ogun State Commissioner of Police, CP Lanre Ogunlowo, and his team for their bravery and effective response. “This operation exemplifies the dedication and resilience of our police officers. The Nigeria Police Force remains committed to combatting kidnapping and ensuring the safety of all citizens,” he said.
