The Rivers State Police Command has presented a suspected murderer and organ harvester, Demian Okoligwe, to the public. Okoligwe is alleged to have murdered and dismembered his female lover, Justina Otuene.
According to Commissioner of Police Nwonyi Emeka, Okoligwe, a 400-level student in the Department of Petrochemical Engineering at the University of Port Harcourt, invited his girlfriend, Otuene, a 300-level student at the same university, to his residence. Tragically, it was here that he took her life and removed her organs.
The arrest unfolded as follows: On Wednesday, October 25, 2023, around 3:30 pm, the Ozuoba Division’s operatives received a complaint from a concerned neighbor living on Road 20, behind NTA Ozuoba. The neighbor reported an unbearable odor coming from Damian Okoligwe’s room, who was also a tenant in the same building.
In response, the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) and detectives went to the location, where they forced the door open and discovered a bag containing the lifeless body of Justina Otuene.
The fleeing suspect was subsequently traced and apprehended for further investigation. The body of the victim, a 20-year-old Biochemistry student at the University of Port Harcourt, was recovered and placed in the mortuary. Preliminary investigations are underway, and the case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (CID) for a more thorough inquiry.
Commissioner of Police Nwonyi Emeka also reported the rescue of four children from suspected child traffickers, who were subsequently paraded.
The CP stated: “Following a reported case of abduction on September 9, 2023, by Ijeoma, a 35-year-old resident of Awalama, Rumuokoro, Port Harcourt, detectives from the Special Area Division took swift action and arrested Ifesinachi Opara. His arrest led to the apprehension of Happiness Enyinnaya-Iheukwumere, also known as Doctor Hagi, to whom one of the children was sold.”
Further investigations led to the recovery of three additional children who had been trafficked by Doctor Hagi from various regions of the country. Among the children rescued in Port Harcourt were a one-year-and-seven-month-old named Benedict Kpaka, Godgift Julius, aged 4, and Filomena, aged 6.
CP Nwonyi Emeka added, “Further investigations revealed that one Angel Simonson, a 26-year-old female from Markurdi, who is currently at large, is the source of these children supplied to Doctor Hagi. Efforts are ongoing to apprehend Simonson.”
In addition to these cases, the police commissioner also disclosed that two suspects were arrested during a raid of criminal hideouts in high-crime areas in Mile 1, 2, and 3 Diobu. Substances believed to be Indian hemp and other narcotics were confiscated from the suspects. Furthermore, four individuals suspected to be cult members and linked to the murder of the late Ahoada Divisional Police Officer, SP Bako Angbashim, were also apprehended.
