Former Kaduna Central Senator, Shehu Sani, has described the ongoing price competition between Dangote Refinery and the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) as nothing more than a “skit.”
His remarks came in response to the Federal Government’s decision not to intervene in the petrol price tussle between the two energy giants.
On Wednesday, a statement from President Bola Tinubu’s spokesman, Bayo Onanuga, confirmed that the government would stay neutral in this fuel price standoff. He explained that both NNPCL and Dangote Refinery have the freedom to determine their prices, in line with the deregulated market system.
Sani took to X (formerly Twitter), sharing his thoughts: “Now that the FG will not intervene in the price war between Dangote and NNPCL shows that ‘the war’ is a skit.”
The government’s stance means all petroleum stakeholders, including Dangote and NNPCL, can set their fuel prices based on market forces.
