PDP Unveils Schedule for By-Elections, Sets Senate Nomination Fee at N3.5 Million.

Ahead of the February 3, 2024, by-elections, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has issued a timetable and schedule of activities for candidates vying for Senatorial, House of Representatives, and State Assemblies seats. The PDP timetable, signed by the National Organising Secretary, Umar Bature, outlines key dates and procedures for the upcoming elections.

The sale of nominations, expression of interest, and delegates forms is set to commence on December 28, 2023, concluding on January 3, 2024. Primary elections are slated to take place on January 9, 2024.

For those aspiring to contest Senate seats, the Expression of Interest and Nomination forms are priced at N3.5 million, while House of Representatives candidates will pay N2.5 million, and House of Assembly aspirants will be charged N600,000.

The PDP has introduced special considerations for certain categories of candidates. Female aspirants and persons living with disabilities are required to pay for nomination forms exclusively. Additionally, individuals below the age of 40 are eligible for a 50% discount on nomination forms when purchasing Expression of Interest forms.

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has fixed February 3, 2024, as the date for the by-elections necessitated by the resignation or demise of members of the National and State Houses of Assembly. The vacancies span two Senatorial Districts, four Federal Constituencies, and three State Constituencies across nine states of the Federation.
