Aides who served under the former Governor of Anambra State, Chief Willie Obiano, have urged the current governor, Prof Chukwuma Soludo, to fulfill their severance packages. This plea was voiced during a reunion meeting held in Awka last Sunday.
Expressing their concerns, the aides revealed that a distressing number of 42 members, who served under Governor Obiano, have passed away within the two years since leaving their positions. They lamented the fact that these individuals did not receive their severance allowances before their demise, appealing to Governor Soludo to expedite the disbursement of these entitlements.
It is noteworthy that this appeal echoes a similar request made by Obiano himself a month ago. The former governor asserted that the compensation and the inclusion of some of his aides in Soludo’s administration were agreed upon conditions for his support during the succession period.
Dr. Onyekachukwu Ibezim, the Deputy Governor of Anambra State and a former political appointee under Obiano, who was present at the gathering, encouraged the former aides not to lose hope but to have faith in divine intervention. He pointed out that even Governor Soludo had previously served under Obiano, emphasizing there is no need for undue concern.
