Nigerian Professor Breaks World Record for Longest Marathon Lecture
Dr. Nsikak Akpan, Provost of the College of Health Sciences at Foreign Links Campus in Moro, Ile-Ife, Osun State, has set a new world record for the longest marathon lecture. He surpassed the previous record of 139 hours, 52 minutes, and 42 seconds held by an Indian professor, Arvin Mishra.
Akpan’s lecture, which began on September 23, has covered a wide range of topics in ecology and environmental science. He continues to deliver his lecture, aiming to reach the 150-hour mark.
In his lecture, Akpan emphasized the importance of environmental protection and called on governments to enforce laws that safeguard both the environment and human health. He specifically criticized the practice of concreting road medians in Osun State, arguing that it goes against international standards.
Akpan explained that the grasses and plants along road medians help absorb harmful pollutants, such as carbon monoxide and heavy metals. By removing these natural elements, the government is increasing the risk of environmental pollution and associated health problems.
Dr. Akpan’s remarkable achievement highlights his dedication to environmental education and his commitment to promoting sustainable practices.
