Ondo crisis- Don’t reshuffle cabinet, APC Chieftain tells Aiyedatiwa

The statement by Barrister Sola Ajisafe highlights his concern and opposition to the alleged plan to reshuffle the State Executive Council (EXCO) by the acting governor of Ondo State, Hon Lucky Aiyedatiwa. Ajisafe accuses Aiyedatiwa of attempting to undermine Governor Rotimi Akeredolu and favoring his supporters in the government through the reshuffling.

Ajisafe asserts that such actions would be contrary to the 1999 constitution and the agreement reached with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu during a peace meeting in Abuja. He specifically points to Section 190 of the Constitution, which, according to him, does not give the Deputy Governor (acting governor, in this case) the power to reshuffle the cabinet. He argues that the Acting Governor has the right to act on behalf of the governor but not to override the governor’s decisions.

The lawyer expresses concern over two memos from the Acting Governor’s office, including freezing the accounts of local governments and Local Council Development Areas (LCDA) and the reassignment of the Chief of Protocol (COP) to Governor Akeredolu. Ajisafe sees these actions as potentially undermining the office of the governor.

Furthermore, Ajisafe criticizes Aiyedatiwa for allegedly not making efforts to reconcile warring factions in the state after a meeting with President Bola Tinubu. He accuses the Acting Governor of recruiting non-state actors to protest and demand the resignation of Governor Akeredolu, suggesting that Aiyedatiwa may have ambitions to succeed his boss.

Ajisafe points out instances where these actors were silent during crises in the state and accuses them of having their own agenda that could disrupt progress in Ondo State.

It’s important to note that this statement represents Barrister Sola Ajisafe’s perspective and opinions on the matter. The actual events and motivations behind the alleged reshuffling plan may vary, and perspectives from other stakeholders would provide a more comprehensive understanding of the situation.
