The factional secretary-general of Ohanaeze Ndigbo, Okechukwu Isiguzoro, has urged Peter Obi, Atiku Abubakar, and Rabiu Kwankwaso, leaders of the three major opposition political parties, to join forces in the endeavor to rebuild Nigeria.
Peter Obi was the presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP), Atiku Abubakar ran on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), while Rabiu Kwankwaso contested under the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) in the 2023 elections.
Ohanaeze highlighted that the first year of President Bola Tinubu’s presidency has witnessed progress, development, and a genuine commitment to overcoming challenges.
Isiguzoro stated in his Tuesday statement that this contrasts with the wasteful eight years under the previous administration led by Muhammadu Buhari.
He remarked, “During Buhari’s tenure, the South-East region experienced deliberate economic suppression and marginalization, targeting Igbo industrialists and investors while promoting strife through harmful policies such as open grazing and RUGA land-grabbing initiatives.
“This resulted in increased insecurity and economic neglect, leaving the Igbo nation disenfranchised and marginalized.
“In contrast, the current administration under President Tinubu has demonstrated remarkable political will and determination to address these challenges.
“The ongoing reconstruction and rehabilitation of major federal expressways in the South-east, led by Senator David Umahi, have spurred economic activity and infrastructure development, changing the narrative of neglect and bias toward the region.
“Ohanaeze applauds Senator David Umahi for his outstanding performance as Minister of Works, which has significantly bolstered the acceptance and recognition of the APC in the Southeast.
“The Igbo body urges President Tinubu to halt the unnecessary demolition of Igbo properties in Lagos, release Nnamdi Kanu, and implement trade policies that foster friendly relations and sustainable economic growth.
“The reopening of the Calabar Seaport is also advocated for, as it holds immense potential for enhancing economic activity, particularly alongside the construction of the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Super Highway.”
