Renowned Nollywood actress, Omotola Jalade-Ekeinde, has taken to task Turkish Airlines for their failure to feature any Nigerian movies during her extensive 40-hour flight. In a recent Instagram post, the actress asserted that such a practice amounts to discrimination against African travelers.
Expressing her disappointment, Omotola highlighted that throughout her lengthy flight, the airline exclusively showcased movies from Turkey, Asia, Bollywood, Hollywood, and the Middle East. She pointed out that this lack of representation for Nollywood films raises concerns about discrimination against African destinations and travelers.
In her Instagram post on Wednesday, she addressed Turkish Airlines directly, stating, “Dear @turkishairlines, like many other foreign companies, you might be discriminating against African destinations and travelers, and that needs to stop. The obvious lack of details or respect shown towards African paying customers spilled to on-ground staff relationship.”
Omotola further shared her frustration about an unexpected layover in Uganda that wasn’t part of her initial booking. She questioned the disparity in treatment, especially when African travelers often incur higher fees for flights to other parts of the globe.
Her critique emphasized the need for equitable treatment and representation for African travelers, urging an end to what she perceives as blatant disrespect and discrimination.
