Okonjo-Iweala’s Expertise Earned Her WTO Re-Appointment – Oborevwori

Delta State Governor, Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, has congratulated Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala on her reappointment as the Director-General of the World Trade Organization (WTO), which was confirmed on Friday.

In his statement, Governor Oborevwori acknowledged Okonjo-Iweala’s outstanding career, highlighting her significant expertise in economics and international development. He praised her focus on economic reform, poverty reduction, and global trade, which has earned her widespread recognition and numerous accolades.

Dr. Okonjo-Iweala, who hails from Ogwashi-Uku, Delta State, served as Nigeria’s Minister of Finance twice and played a pivotal role in leading the country’s economy out of foreign debt obligations during her first term under former President Olusegun Obasanjo.

Governor Oborevwori expressed gratitude to the World Trade Organization (WTO) stakeholders for recognizing Okonjo-Iweala’s contributions by offering her a second term as Director-General, following her initial appointment in 2021.

The Governor emphasized that her reappointment was a testament to her competence, experience, and exceptional leadership in the global economic arena.

“On behalf of my family, the Government, and the people of Delta, I congratulate a worthy ambassador of Delta and Nigeria, Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, on her reappointment as Director-General of the World Trade Organisation,” Oborevwori stated.

He added, “Your reappointment without opposition is indeed a reflection of the hard work you put in your first term. It is our prayer that as you continue in this remarkable journey, our prayers are with you always. You will re-enact all the success and bring pride and honour to Delta and Nigeria.”
